Nikki Green international ketubah artist

Nikki Green

I draw on my cultural heritage to combine the spirit of the letter with the sense of sublime in my surrounding landscape. My work is both functional and ornamental, combining my private art practice with teaching and community arts. My underlying philosophy in all that I do is to honour love, life and connection.

I have lived and worked in Sydney and Melbourne, building my reputation as an artist and designer, specialising in Jewish Ceremonial Art. I have worked on both public and private commissions, specifically creating hand crafted marriage certificates, and artworks that celebrate the cycle of life.

I now live in Denmark, Western Australia, lecturing in Visual Art. Surrounded by a wild, rugged coastline, ancient karri forests and pulsating rivers…I have found a calm serenity and inspiration here – a deep connection with the earth and my footprints upon it.

My fine art practice is underpinned by my love for printmaking – layering text and image and exploring the idea of the hidden and revealed. My subjects are drawn from the cross-over between the natural and built environment. My interest in the sacred and the mystical has influenced my love for ancient scripts and its organic shapes – incorporated in the palimpsest of layers in my work. From traditional to contemporary; from the literal to the abstract, my work is a quiet invitation to reflect on what is and what was..
